Beijing, September 17th (Xinhua) - September 17th is World Cycling Day. On the 17th, it was learned from the China Cycling Association that China, as the world's largest producer and exporter of bicycles, currently has a bicycle population of over 200 million.

Guo Wenyu, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Cycling Association, stated that based on a survey of travel data from eight cities including Beijing, Changsha, and Chengdu, about 30 out of every 100 trips made by urban residents nationwide are completed by "two wheel trips", with more than 20% of the total trips made by urban residents around rail stations. The national daily reduction in carbon emissions due to "two rounds of travel" is about 10000 tons. Calculated based on a fuel consumption of 8 liters per 100 kilometers, it is equivalent to saving about 6.6 million liters of gasoline.

The bicycle industry is continuously promoting product structure optimization. Guo Wenyu stated that the production of lightweight and intelligent electric assisted bicycles has increased significantly. In the past two years, the domestic sales growth rate of electric assisted bicycles has exceeded 20%, and electric assisted bicycles with intelligent functions are highly favored by young consumers.

The digitalization and intelligence of the bicycle industry continue to advance. Guo Wenyu said that currently in the production end, welding robots, painting robots, assembly line feeding robots and other applications are more widely used, and more than 20% of industry enterprises have carried out production line automation upgrades and renovations.

On the consumer side of the bicycle industry, new products and models such as shared bicycles and centralized charging and swapping have emerged with the support of technologies such as big data and the Internet of Things. Chu Yiqun, Vice President of Hello Group, stated that as a leading enterprise in shared transportation, Hello's registered user and order numbers have steadily increased in the past few years. "It is the responsibility of bike sharing enterprises to continuously promote low-carbon travel and healthy living with high-quality cycling products and services," said Chu Yiqun. (End)
